Testing a
DREAM
Chapter 3 of 12
Learn how to...
...make sure that your DREAM future is achievable.
You don't want to waste time pursuing certain courses, careers or lifestyles if you have no real intention of making them your DESTINATION.

DREAM to
DESTINATION
Word of warning to the wise: this is where the weak become disheartened. This is where the towel gets picked up ready to be thrown in. This is where our DREAMS get fact checked.
ā
The flip side of it though is this is where you get to truly test that your initial thoughts of a DREAM are actually indeed your desired future. We don’t think this section is anything other than mega exciting. Hopefully you’ll be the same after reading this but please do bear with us until you get to the end. It won’t take us long to land there. Promise.
All DREAMS need testing but rarely do they need completely destroying. Sometimes they need reworking and sometimes our approach needs refocussing but that is part of the journey.
ā
Hopefully by now you have started to dare to DREAM and consider what that DREAM might entail. Let us just remind you of the DREAM building process found below. We covered PASSIONS on the last page so now we will look at DESIRE.

DREAM building = passions + desire
The greater your desire for DREAM building, the greater the options you have available to you.
ā
I mean that sort of makes sense right? We all know that the harder you work, the more opportunities come your way. The more effort we put into the DREAM building process the more likely we are going to fulfil our desires.
ā
Defining passions can ignite a flame in us that propels us to a place in life whereby our desires increase for sure. Therefore we wholeheartedly encourage you to always have a DREAM in mind. The DREAM may be continuously being revised or changed and that is fine so long as there is always a DREAM inside of you. However sometimes we need to be honest with ourselves and ask ourselves the following question:

How much am I willing to sacrifice to secure my DREAM future?
The answer of course is not necessarily quantifiable but it does need considering. You see you probably cannot expect to become the biggest entrepreneur in your country’s history and refuse to work more than 35 hours a week. You cannot expect to get into a leading university and not sacrifice some of your social life in getting there. You cannot want to become the best chef, the greatest scientist or the finest medical surgeon if you are not willing to develop a winning mentality and a ruthless streak that sees you relentless in your pursuit for greatness. But there’s a twist…

Some of us don’t wish to be recognised as the leading light on a world stage. Some of us want to become the best college teacher that we can be. Or the most consistent and reliable plumber that our town has ever known. Or a personal fitness trainer who works their hours around other interests or responsibilities they may enjoy, such as a family or charitable work.
If this balanced, more measured lifestyle is truly your DREAM and your passions align with this then that is awesome. I mean you are so not off the hook, as to become a great teacher for example, still takes a lot of desire, study and hard work but the path to owning a greater work-life balance is very much achievable.
ā
So the fact checking questions we need to ask ourselves are these:
What sacrifices am I willing to make for the lifestyle I want to achieve?
ā
Are the two compatible?
ā
Where do I need to compromise or find an alternative route through?
ā
You can’t plan to work a low paid job and own a Ferrari. I mean it might happen. You may win the lottery or marry someone rich but truth is we can’t plan for that to happen as it’s not down to us. You cannot plan to work as a ski instructor for 12 months a year if the snow seasons where you wish to work do not last that long.
ā
We need to test the DREAMS we have and see if they fully align with what we want. This is no bad thing. In fact it’s very positive because at the other side of this you come out with a DREAM that is exciting, that is something that makes you jump out of bed in the morning for but also something that works for you. Something that fits your ideal lifestyle. When we have something that we can believe in then anything is possible.

The only thing that then risks stopping us are DREAM Blockers. More of which can be found on the next page. But for now let’s make sure that in testing and maybe even redefining our DREAMS, we don’t end up discarding them completely. As reality does not need to lead to apathy. Instead reality should lead us to be super-charged and all in for our DREAM future.
Have a think...
1. Are your DREAMS and desire compatible?
ā
2. What areas of your DREAM future have you previously failed to contemplate that you now consider to be important?
3. What are your non-negotiables in your DREAM future?

Another chapter complete.
One step closer to your DREAM future secured.
