DREAM to
DESTINATION
BREAKING NEWS: There are 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week.
ā
Only joking. You already knew that didn’t you? But how you spend your time is crucial to making your Future decided. Every day counts and every hour within each day is crucial. But that doesn’t mean that you are no longer allowed to play on your games console, speak to friends, have a part-time job or enjoy a lie-in on a weekend. It’s bigger than that.
Reflecting on time
How do you spend your (average) week?
ā
Do you ‘go with the flow’ outside of scheduled lessons or do you plan your time carefully?
ā
If you do plan do you stick to it or are you easily swayed?
See, if you aim to sleep for 8 hours each night and stick to it then you’ll have a great sleep pattern. In turn you will be more productive in other areas of your life, like studying and working a part-time job. When you plan to see friends then you hopefully feel refreshed and re-energised. When you plan to do sport or go to the gym then your fitness and overall wellbeing improves.
ā
The strength of planning time
When you plan your day you achieve more. You probably knew that already too, but it bears repeating. If you plan to study then you are more likely to study. When you plan to turn up to your part-time job on time then you are more likely to arrive on time (and therefore keep your job!). We get it. But have you ever thought that planning your time actually makes you enjoy things more? Ok, so hear us out on this one.

Most people who win the lottery cannot cope with it and within a few years over half of all winners become bankrupt. Hard to believe and sorry to burst your bubble if that was a personal DREAM of yours but it’s true.

The reason why is relatively simple: they didn’t earn it and therefore they struggle to fully value it. The same goes with time. If you plan to study and afterwards go out and see friends then you will actually have a greater time with your friends than if you never studied in the first place. If you plan to lie in for 12 hours every Saturday morning then you will avoid feeling guilty if you planned for it and had worked hard the rest of the week to complete your studies, chores and work before sleeping in. Planning is everything.
Your default diary
You know the healthier you are (mind and body) then the better your exam results are likely to turn out so there is no reason whatsoever to not plan to sleep, exercise and socialise. However, if that is all you ever do then you will struggle to achieve your DREAM future, so balance is key.
Check out pages 30-31 of your workbook (link to download below) to access a blank copy of our Future decided Default Diary, to help you timetable your average week. What does yours currently look like? Only by reflecting and analysing what our current life looks like can we look to make any required changes (should we feel the need to) in order to help secure our DREAM future.

We recommend you complete two. One that currently reflects your typical week and one to work towards. Remember in your ideal one to include plenty of time to rest and play as well as study hard but do plan to study hard as those exams will not pass themselves.
1. Are you naturally a ‘go-with-the-flow’ person or are you a planner?
ā
2. How disciplined are you when you have free/study periods at school/college?
ā
3. What distractions take you away most frequently from the thing you should be concentrating on? How could you reduce or eliminate this distraction?

Students are not the only people that need to look after and protect their time. As teaching staff we are in the same boat.
Our gold package cuts down planning time by providing all course content in one place meaning no preparation is needed. All you have to do is press 'play'. It could not be easier.
