Chapter 7 of 12

Learn how to...

...set yourself up for success by learning to get the basics right.

Basics are dull. There, we said it. To some extent, now you know that is what we are discussing here then we are sort of surprised that you are still reading this. Unless you are doing so under duress. We get the whole ‘no choice given’ scenario. But please go with us on this one and you won’t regret it. Promise. Anyway, as we were saying: basics are dull and the 360° life is just that. It’s about getting the basics right. It’s about setting ourselves up for complete victory in everything we touch. It’s about acknowledging that if we walk around without shoes on then we probably won’t ever change the world. I mean it’s kind of true, right? Most people who change the world wear shoes. And shower. They usually do shower.

We are well aware that you are now trying to think of famous people who never shower. We couldn’t think of any but no doubt they do exist. In the same way that there are exceptions to all walks of life. Like you probably one day heard of some billionaire who never had an education and think you were being clever by telling your teachers that you didn’t need to listen to them anymore. Yeah, we did that too. But here is the thing though with exceptions. They are that, exceptions. As in if you were a betting person you wouldn’t bet on it. And at Future decided we don’t gamble, we go with confidence and tried-and-tested. Always. So we shower. And we change our socks and we believe that the little things echo in the big. Let us demonstrate what we mean…

We don’t really need to go through the answers do we…?

Now we know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, well you never know. That’s true. There are always exceptions, we just don’t build on exceptions.

You see there is just no escaping it; life is lived 360° and the basics matter. Gulp. And so how are you with the basics in life? Only your scruffy bedroom is affecting your future. Your inability to shower daily is affecting your mindset to how big a life you think you can live. You turning up late to your university lecture is an issue if it becomes anything other than a one-off exception. You can catch up on the missed information, sure, but you lose ground in the attitude department that is so vital to success.

Basic Compliance Checklist

Over to you. What responsibilities do you hold in life and how are you at meeting them? You can find your own blank guide on page 23 of your workbook (link to download below). Complete it and see how you hold up and what changes (if any) you may need to make on the back of it.

Final thoughts…

Don’t forget to constantly review your basic compliance checklist regularly. We recommend looking at it monthly if you are doing ok, weekly if you are struggling and every 3 months if you are nailing every area of life. Give yourself rewards for keeping on track and consider having an accountability partner too if you feel you need one.

Have a think...

Having completed the basic compliance checklist…

1. Is there a common theme to your discipline or lack of in certain areas of your life?

2. What could help you get back on track?

3. Is there anything in this section that we have discussed that you disagree with? If so, then why?

We all know that it's better to deliver 'difficult' news face-to-face rather than via a written message.

Our gold package has all of the same great content  above but is presented by Seth Butcher, our course director. It's nearly always easier for students to get even more on board with the content when they can see the face of the person who is delivering it.
